The sacral chakra, also known as the navel chakra, is located in the lower abdomen about two inches below the navel and two inches in. It’s vortex radiates the color orange and it is the second chakra in the column. It relates to our sexual glands, reproductive system, appendix, lower abdomen, spleen, colon, lumbar spine, kidneys, bladder and the urinary tract system. A balanced sacral chakra will fill us with the flow of life, allow us to actively express creativity, feel joy and pleasure, be adaptable, feel comfortable with our sexuality and sensuality and for women, healthy fertility. When out of balance it can affect our ability to be intimate, we may isolate or feel guilt and become rigid. Physically, the imbalance can cause genital, sexual and fertility issues, joint problems and dehydration.

Taking Care of the Sacral Chakra
Since it is our emotional center, practicing emotional catharsis is key. Jump, scream, laugh, dance, sing. Express yourself artistically in any genre that suits you: dancing, writing, acting, drawing, construction, cooking, singing, math, science, alchemy, teaching, painting. Identify any sexual blockages. Try healing practices such as yoga, kundalini yoga, pranayama and (again) dancing. Whatever makes you feel true joy and freedom from suppression. Learn to love and care for your body.
The sound of the sacral chakra is “vam,” breathe in deeply and chant or hum this sound. As mentioned in previous posts, listening to binaural beats and isochronic tones aids in this process. The sacral chakra’s frequency measures 288 Hz (you can look up binaural beats to specific frequencies and themes). Meditation works for any chakra. The sacral chakra’s element is represented by water. Meditate or walk by the ocean or go swimming. Try meditating on the color orange; envision the wheel of the sacral chakra opening up at it’s location clockwise (both in back and in front).
Aromatherapy is useful in maintaining a healthy sacral. Try correlating essential oils such as spikenard, vetiver, frankincense, myrrh, oakmoss, patchouli, angelica root, benzoin, cedarwood, orange, neroli and bergamot. Associated crystals for healing the sacral chakra include citrine, milky quartz, moonstone, selenite, vandanite, blue-green fluorite, jasper, orange carnelian, calcite and amber.
The sense related to the sacral chakra is taste so food can play a very important role. Eat orange foods, oranges, tangerines, mandarins, strawberries, mangos, melons, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, carrots, squash, nuts and as the element associated with the sacral chakra is water, drink plenty of it!
