The moon is currently a waxing gibbous in Scorpio. It will remain a waxing gibbous until the next full moon on June 5th. The moon remains in Scorpio until June 4th before entering Sagittarius. The full moon on June 5th is called The Strawberry Moon (also known as The Rose Moon, The Hot Moon and The Mead Moon). It’s entitled a Strawberry Moon due to the fact that in June, wild strawberries begin to ripen.
In ancient times the calendar was tracked by the moon which calculated the changing of seasons. Certain cultures, events and occupations still use the lunar calendar for reference (see the Farmers Almanac).
The moon represents how we nurture ourselves, our maternal instincts (how we both mother and baby ourselves), it describes our instinctive or emotional energies, innate reactions, what we need to feel secure as well as revealing our emotional, genetic and intuitive makeup. When the moon is in a certain sign, the overall energy takes on the qualities of that particular zodiac. People with sun signs and especially people with moon signs in that placement are particularly prone to feeling the characteristics of the moon’s energy. To be more specific, if you are a Scorpio sun sign, you’ll feel this moon more than most; if you are a Scorpio moon sign, you’ll feel the energy personally.
Scorpio moons relate to the sensitive but loyal aspect of a Scorpio astrological sign. Scorpio has intense emotional needs and as a water sign, it relates to the emotional, psychological and spiritual dimensions of life. Scorpios are very perceptive, powerful, transformational yet mysterious. Scorpio is a fixed sign suggesting that when they align their emotions to something they desire, they will be constant and unwilling in letting it go. Scorpio holds a hyper awareness of the unsaid. They are the readers of subtext. The subtle becomes more clear under this moon. Though they are extremely realistic, they are also very passionate. Scorpio’s tend to be secretive and wary when it comes to getting close to others, especially if they’ve been burned by love, before.
Waxing moon phases are culminating toward full. They’ve gained but the total picture is not there yet. It’s still in the works. Still attaining more light and growing it’s energy. A waxing gibbous in Scorpio is specific to “Shadow Work,” that which is hidden behind the surface, the burdens we carry (anger, guilt, grief) all play a role in these ego instincts. Letting go of dark to allow the love and light in is the goal. All of us must possess both dark and light, hope and fear, ego and self. The universe is indifferent to that which is “good” or “bad” but when the moon is waxing in Scorpio, it is time to work through our more shadowy selves. A Scorpio moon is lusty and mysterious and in the mood to evolve into a more enlightened state. Scorpio moon energy is intense and for some, can be an uncomfortable position, especially if their natal chart is lacking Scorpio energy. With a Scorpio moon comes extreme highs and lows, a deep understanding of human emotion and an ability to sense the moods of those around them (which can lead some to act manipulatively). The Scorpio moon tends to hold feeling in rather than spokenly/outwardly express them. Scorpio is ruled by Pluto who has a tendency toward secrecy and not expressing feeling in too many words. There must be a strong sense of trust in order to open which can take a long time (and may be your shadow work).
